Essays and Other Submitted Content

When you submit an essay for evaluation, we process the essay text and the information associated with the request, which may include:

The essay or written response;
The selected university, application type, essay prompt, or evaluation mode;
Word count and validation results;
Scores, feedback, recommendations, and other generated analysis;
Submission and review identifiers;
The date and time of the evaluation; and
Information about whether the evaluation used a free review or paid credits.

Submitted essays and generated evaluations may be stored in your account so that you can access them through My Reviews.

You should avoid including unnecessary sensitive information in an essay, such as passwords, financial account numbers, government identification numbers, medical records, or another person’s private information.

Usage and Technical Information

We and our service providers may process technical information such as:

IP address;
Browser and device information;
User agent;
Referring and visited pages;
Timestamps;
Security and authentication events;
Error and performance logs;
Cloudflare Turnstile verification data; and
Credit balances and usage records.

We use this information to operate and secure the service, enforce usage limits, detect fraud or abuse, troubleshoot errors, and improve reliability.

We may also record the College Essay Grader page or service associated with your account, along with timestamps such as your most recent activity.

Free Reviews and Credits

Registered users may receive up to two free essay reviews in total, subject to the rules displayed on the platform. We maintain account and usage records to enforce this lifetime limit and to manage purchased credits.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

Provide essay evaluations and personalized feedback;
Authenticate users and maintain accounts;
Display previously completed evaluations;
Manage free reviews, purchased credits, and transactions;
Protect the platform from bots, fraud, and misuse;
Maintain, diagnose, and improve the service;
Respond to support, privacy, and account-deletion requests;
Enforce our Terms of Use; and
Meet applicable legal and regulatory obligations.

We do not use submitted essays to impersonate users or publish them as examples without separate, explicit permission.

3. Artificial Intelligence Processing

College Essay Grader uses the Google Gemini API to analyze submitted writing. When you request an evaluation, your essay and relevant evaluation instructions are transmitted to Google for processing.

When Gemini API Paid Services are used, Google states that prompts and responses are not used to improve its products. Google may nevertheless log prompts and responses for a limited period for abuse prevention, safety, security, and required legal or regulatory disclosures. Processing may occur in countries where Google or its service providers operate.

College Essay Grader does not independently guarantee Google’s retention practices. Google’s processing is governed by its applicable Gemini API terms and data-processing terms.

4. Service Providers

We use service providers to operate the platform, including:

Google OAuth, for account authentication;
Google Gemini API, for AI-assisted essay evaluation;
Supabase, for authentication, database services, and account-related records;
Vercel, for application hosting and server-side processing;
Cloudflare Turnstile, for bot detection and platform security; and
Lemon Squeezy, for processing purchases and payments.

College Essay Grader does not receive or store complete payment-card numbers. Payment and billing information is processed by Lemon Squeezy. We may retain transaction identifiers, purchased package information, payment status, amounts, dates, and corresponding credit records.

These providers may process information only as necessary to provide their respective services and according to their own contractual and privacy obligations.

5. Data Retention

We retain account information and saved essay reviews while your account remains active or for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service.

Usage, transaction, fraud-prevention, security, and operational records may be retained for longer periods when necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and enforce agreements.

When you request deletion, we will delete or anonymize eligible information associated with your account, subject to legal, security, fraud-prevention, backup, and financial-recordkeeping requirements.

9. Children and Teen Users

College Essay Grader is intended for users who are at least 13 years old. Users under the age required to consent to data processing in their country should use the service only with the permission or involvement of a parent or legal guardian.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below the applicable minimum age. A parent or guardian who believes that a child has provided information improperly may contact us to request its deletion.

10. International Data Processing

College Essay Grader and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where required, providers use contractual or legal mechanisms intended to protect internationally transferred information.
